Renewable Biofuels

oeltropfen 01

Biodiesel is a fuel with similar properties as diesel fuel. But in contrast to conventional diesel fuel, it is not obtained from petroleum, rather from plant oils or animal fats. We are one of the first companies in Europe to obtain biodiesel from recycled fats and oils.

TK Fuel Stations and Biodiesel

We have a biodiesel network in Germany and Austria. You will be welcomed there with our fuel card or our fuel chip. In addition, we offer business customers such as transportation companies, designated fleet vehicle solutions (such as biodiesel delivered to the vehicle park).

Biodiesel is an Environmental Fuel

Compared to conventional fossil diesel fuel, biodiesel has the following important advantages:

  • Virtually sulfur-free
  • Contains no benzol or other aromatics
  • Non-toxic and readily biodegradable
  • Not a hazardous material and not inflammable
  • Drastic reduction in exhaust emissions, especially in conjunction with oxidation catalysts

Our Biodiesel also helps the Environment

Our experience in the production of biodiesel is evidence of our emphasis on the highest level of environmental compatibility. Biodiesel has become a “clean thing” for use through the consistent use of recycled grease and animal fats in its production.

Likewise we stand for premium quality. Our biodiesel meets the European EU Standard EN 14214 and is thus approved for many vehicles. Thus the use of our fuel will not void any manufacturer’s warrantee!

Advantages for the Vehicle

  • By its very nature, biodiesel has advantages that mineral fuels can only approximately attain through the addition of numerous additives or through very energy-intensive production steps which simultaneously increasing the emission of CO2.
  • Cetane number: Biodiesel inherently has a cetane number of about 58, whereas mineral diesel fuel has a cetane number of 49 without additives, and then 53 with additives. A higher cetane number automatically results in less ignition delay and reduced pressure build-up in the cylinder, and thus to a lesser amount of engine wear and a longer running life.
  • Clean combustion: The biodiesel molecule contains about 11% oxygen. This oxygen fraction results in a better combustion process and thus to far less soot. The fuel-related residues in the interior of the engine are clearly reduced (CCD reduction).
  • Reduced wear: Due to the very good self-lubricating feature of biodiesel, engine wear is greatly decreased. Experiments on the PORSCHE AG test stand on a MEERCEDES BENZ engine indicated a high level of cleanliness after 500 hours operation on biodiesel and a reduced wear by 60% compared to standard operation with conventional diesel fuel.
  • Winter diesel down to -20° C: Compounds added to biodiesel in winter will ensure that biodiesel is winter-ready. Biodiesel meets the requirements of DIN EN 14214, which in this respect correspond to the Standard for Diesel Fuel and attains a CFPP of -20°C and thus ensures good operation even in winter.

Please only use biodiesel after consultation with your TK Service Advisor and/or your vehicle service provider!

Maintenance Notes

When using biodiesel a few maintenance notes should be followed which will guarantee long-term and smooth operation.

  • Fuel filter: After every fill-up with biodiesel following the use of conventional diesel, the fuel filter should be replaced.
  • Paint: Vehicle paint (synthetic resins) on older vehicles not approved for biodiesel are not resistant to biodiesel. Painted surfaces which come into contact with biodiesel during fuelling must be wiped clean immediately. Premium and resistant 2-component paints are not affected.
  • Hoses: Rubber or plastic materials on older, non-approved vehicles may potentially not be resistant to long-term exposure to biodiesel. Fuel hoses may swell up. One solution is to use hoses made of fluoro-rubber which have already proven their worth in a number of vehicles. Replacement of affected parts of the fuel system can be handled quickly by your vehicle service department.

Approvals

Inquire directly from your manufacturer or our Customer service whether your vehicle is approved for use of biodiesel.

Please do not use biodiesel beforehand!

A brief overview of approvals (Status: 2006 – Information not guaranteed) is available on the service pages of the Austrian Ministry of Agriculture: http://www.blt.bmlf.gv.at/bio_nawa/biodies/Freigabeliste.pdf
